Photographs from Sh*t My Dad Says (Click on Thumbnails to Enlarge)
I have no idea why I'm sopping wet in this photo, but I'm going to guess it's because I rolled in something filthy or spilled something on myself. Hosing me down was my dad’s favorite method for cleaning me off.
Here I am with my dad in his garden, which he adores and whose upkeep he takes very seriously. "It's my first love, besides your mother and horse racing. And you and your brothers, too, I suppose," he’s said.
My dad used to carry me on his shoulders quite a bit when I was a child--until the time I accidentally urinated on him while I was up there. We were at a neighbor’s house and he quickly ran outside, threw me off, ripped off his shirt, then hosed me down like he was from the CDC and I'd come in contact with the Ebola Virus.
My dad is an avid reader, and all throughout my childhood he’d come home after working for 12 hours and we’d sit on the couch and read together.
My family’s trip to the Grand Canyon in 1983 was one of only two family vacations we took. It coincided with the time when my dad started to lose his hair, and decided he'd wear hats to mask his increasing baldness. It wasn’t long before he changed his tune, tossed the caps, and decided he didn’t care what anyone else thought.
Fun readingSeptember 7, 2010 Rob Archer(Johnson CIty, TN USA) I've followed Justin on Twitter for over a year and was cautiously excited to read this book. I wasn't sure the witt of 140-character-or-less postings would translate well to a book but it seems to work. The book contains the sayings intermingled amoung stories and other family history. It's a fun read.
Skip the title, read the book!September 7, 2010 G. Johnson(Ashland, KY) I absolutely adored this book! If you don't read it, you will have missed out on a great time!
Great readSeptember 6, 2010 THoene 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Heard about the book from a group of friends. Before they finished telling me about it I had already ordered it. I read it cover to cover on my first sitting after it arrived. A great read, had to stop more times then I can count so that my sides could rest and be able to see I was laughing so hard. Reminds me of my dad some. Although if you think this book is just about sayings you are wrong. There is more meanings to it and yes it is laced with curse words. The title should give that away though.
not laugh out loud funny for me but intelligent humourSeptember 6, 2010 Ahuchogu Chijioke 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read this book a few months back when I recently acquired my kindle and I was looking for something funny to read. This book was selling like a hot commodity then and had about 100 very positive reviews. So I snapped it up without hesitating. I read it and thought it was quite funny, but not laugh out loud teary eyes funny. I thought it was more valuable for the bits of wisdom veiled in Justin Halpern's Dad's crude humour.
Laughed Out Loud (which I don't do often when reading)September 5, 2010 Davender Gupta(Quebec City, Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed this book, reading one chapter per night before going to sleep. Sometimes I even laughed out loud, which I don't do often while reading. It's a nice series of vignettes which brought back memories of my own dad.
